Our Approach

Black & Decker takes its brands' reputation very seriously, and provides detailed guidelines to advertising agencies regarding television programs to be targeted or avoided.  In addition, we have rigorous procedures to ensure that our advertisements are accurate.

Policy and Practice

The guidelines used by the U.S. Consumer Products Group (the business that uses television advertising most frequently) include the following:

  • Black & Decker is a very content-conscious company and wishes to advertise in a family-friendly environment.
  • We avoid advertising on programs with gratuitous sexual content, extreme violence, adult language and vulgar unappetizing scenes.
  • We generally do not advertise on shows that carry a TV-M or a TV-MA rating.
  • We provide a list of past and present programs, to illustrate the types of shows on which we should not advertise.

All advertisements are thoroughly reviewed by the marketing and legal departments to ensure accuracy and compliance with laws.
