Our Approach
Black & Decker understands the impact that product packaging has on the environment and has initiated multiple efforts to increase the reusability or reduce the quantity of its packaging through innovative design, responsible material selection and transportation considerations.
Policy and Practice
a. Design
Packaging is designed and tested to ensure safe storage and transport of our products to our customers using a minimum amount of materials. Many of our products are sold in carrying cases that provide structural integrity for shipping and product use thus reducing the amount of packaging materials.

b. Materials
Instruction manuals have been significantly reduced in size minimizing the amount of paper required. Paper copies of parts bulletins, warranty cards and service center listings have been eliminated and replaced with toll-free numbers and website solutions. Recycled and/or recyclable material is used wherever possible in our packaging. Paper products such as corrugated fiberboard are used in most of our product packaging in place of less environmentally friendly materials. Below are two examples of how we improved packaging.

c. Transportation
Pallets are constructed to be reused. When available, reconditioned/remanufactured pallets are used. Black & Decker is working with key customers to design pallet loads that optimize trailer loading to reduce transportation miles, thus reducing emissions. Below are examples of how Black & Decker has improved pallet and trailer configurations for transportation of products.
