Our Approach
Black & Decker accepts its responsibility to ensure the wastes its manufacturing activities generate are safely and responsibly managed.
Policy and Practice
To achieve this objective we have established a list of facilities within the United States which are approved to manage RCRA hazardous waste generated by our operations. Operating facilities are required to use one of these approved service providers to manage their hazardous waste. Contracts are established between these firms and Black & Decker.
We are currently expanding the hazardous waste approved facility list to include all facilities which manage non-hazardous waste. In the interim, we have a long-standing practice of auditing and reviewing non-hazardous waste treatment facilities.
We inspect, approve, and establish contracts with companies to which we sell scrap metal.
Where international facilities outside the United States have a choice in who is selected to manage their waste, those firms are reviewed and used only if they are fully licensed and approved by legal authorities and use sound environmental management procedures. |
